Essays can be difficult to write. If you're writing an essay about responsibility, then you have to first define what is meant by personal responsibility. After this first step, you'll have to state a thesis statement. It is the central point of your essay on responsibility. For instance, the thesis statement can be: ‘Personal responsibility is a crucial phase when it comes to maturity.’

After that, you will require body paragraphs that back your thesis, that is, what are your reasons behind your belief in the notion that personal responsibility brings about maturity. In the end, your responsibility essay should contain a conclusion that fantastically summarizes your ideas.

What Is Responsibility?

Responsibility is when an individual is able to respond for his/her actions, can take some duties and face some consequences for the actions that may arise. It is having control over someone or having a duty to handle something.

Human beings are not born with a sense of responsibility, and it doesn't appear immediately. Responsibility is something that’s cultivated. It ought to be part of an individual's personality. It's easy to gain other people's respect if you are a responsible person.

Importance of Responsibility

There are some jobs which require personal responsibility, and a lack of it can be a recipe for disaster. For instance, a student was given the assignment to write an essay (for instance, in this case, an essay on responsibility) but didn't manage to finish it on time. The student would be labeled irresponsible by his/her teacher. In this example, there’s no damage caused other than the student’s personal harm.

A good example is when an employee in a refinery was not attentive enough, pressed the wrong button which led to a massive explosion. The resulting disaster would be catastrophic. This case illustrates how important personal responsibility is.

The following is an ideal my responsibility to America essay.

My Responsibility to America Essay

Responsibility can be termed as ‘the fact or state of being responsible, accountable, or answerable to something within one’s power, management, or control.' Whenever I think of my responsibility to America, the things that instantly come to mind include voting, being an informed citizen, and paying taxes. Also, I think of our responsibility to defend the country and our duty to recognize and honor those responsible for defending our freedoms on a day-to-day basis. We like to declare that we're ‘proud to be American,' yet at most times, we are not accountable for defending the country’s foundational values, beliefs, or those who fight for the right to hold these beliefs. There are moral or ethical obligations such as integrity to the system and citizenship that we ought to fight for other than being informed and countable for paying taxes and voting. We refer to all people in our country ‘Americans,' except we fight with each other and are not united. My responsibility to this country is not only to discharge my duties as an American citizen but also to be responsible for upholding our country's ideals.

Being well-versed in matters concerning America is a civic duty that we as Americans ought to have. It might not appear important, but most people are not well informed on the current affairs taking place in our country today. While it’s not required, we ought to be held accountable for comprehending matters that concern our country, and for voting accordingly. I recall being in elementary school and hearing my parents talk about politics and elections, and fearing the day that I would be eligible to vote. I could not understand why my parents voted for someone to ‘rule’ over where we resided. I vowed not to vote because I thought it was a futile exercise. I thought that my vote would not matter since I was only one person in a country with millions of people. I did not care about defending the country because I did not comprehend everything veterans had done to guarantee the safety of Americans. I believed that one individual could not make a difference in any political election or have any influence over what occurs in our country. However, since then, I have come to learn that one can make a difference. By keeping yourself involved, you can vote for officials to make decisions corresponding to American beliefs and espouse the values we hold true.

Our responsibilities to this beloved country are at times required by law akin to being answerable to legislative laws or policies. There are some duties Americans have like obeying the laws, paying taxes, going to school until you attain a certain age, among others. American citizens have to fulfill their duties since it is the law, and they can’t get out of it. When comparing duties to responsibilities, I would compare doing homework (duties) to house chores (responsibilities). Even though you’re not required to do your chores (for some people), it’s implied that you ought to do them since it would be the right thing to do. However, if you do not do your homework, you might be given a bad grade which will eventually hurt your overall grade. Just like chores and homework, if Americans do not perform their duties, they will face the consequences. Both are important to society as a whole and how it operates.

What does it mean to be American? Now that I am a grown-up, and comprehend more, it sounds like a foreign idea for people not to be proud of where they come from (their roots). I know that not everyone who lives in America was born here. However, they chose to move here. Thus, if you live in our country, you should be proud of it. I'm aware that some people do not believe in fighting for America, and they also believe that it does not solve anything. However, they do not comprehend how much sacrifice was made for the freedoms that we have presently. As for me, I take pride in being American.

Our country may have issues, at times with politicians believing differently on various topics, but we have more freedom than most countries. We assist our neighbors, even if it means neighboring countries that require assistance. If a natural disaster hits a few states, we provide help and supplies to them and try to assist them to get back on their feet. Furthermore, if something occurs in our community and someone needs assistance, we extend a helping hand. Being American does not imply that we have to agree with all that is happening in our country, but we should respect it.

In summary, being American is not just about fulfilling your duties and responsibilities. You have to be proud of your country. We live in a country where we possess rights that other states do not have. We have to stop blaming others for why the president or senator we wanted wasn’t victorious in the election if we didn’t vote. We must honor those who fought who fought for our country because if they didn't, we would not have the freedoms that we currently enjoy. There are things that we are required to do that we don't agree with or enjoy like paying taxes, but it could be worse. My responsibility to America isn't only to perform my civic duty, but to also know my responsibilities as an American citizen, and be proud of my country.
